Ed Morita Now Featured on NonStopHonolulu Entertainment Network

The WordPress Community should remember Ed Morita of Baker’s Hours, the first person to get a permanent WordPress tattoo and great friend of WordPress, and has been a favorite guest on WordCast Conversations. Not long after celebrating the joy of his new blog that changed his life with a tattoo, he severely injured his hand in a pastry roller, changing his life in another way. Over a year later and several surgeries and attempts to return to his working passion, he’s found another passion: blogging and social media.

Ed bravely kept his blog up and starting connecting with fellow bloggers, Tweeters, and others around his Hawaiian island home, reaching out across the ocean to others and widening his social network cheering him onto recovery. With all the recovery time between surgeries, he also returned back to his hobby of photography. From acclaimed baker and chef to social media maven, he’s come a long way in a relatively short time.

We’re thrilled to announce that he will be part of an exclusive group of freelancers on Nonstop Honolulu – Entertainment, Events and Eating in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ed explains:

I can now say that is is because I have been working a new and exciting endeavor. After the merger of the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star Bulletin into the Honolulu Star Advertiser, Honolulu’s presence on Metromix.com ended. Being the definitive online site for covering food, events and nightlife in Honolulu, the demise of Metromix left a void in the Hawaii online scene. Recognizing that there was a void that need to be filled, former Metromix and Honolulu Advertiser TGIF editor Diane Seo gathered a group of former Metromix freelancers to create Nonstop Honolulu.
Joining Diane to bring Nonstop to fruition are former Metromix contributors Tracy Chan, Melissa Chang, John Garcia, Mari Taketa, Catherine Toth and myself. We have all been working tirelessly building the site, covering events, writing blogs and putting together food galleries. Exactly two months after our first meeting, we are now ready to launch Nonstop Honolulu this Monday, August 23rd.

The move has been announced by Hawaii Blog, The Daily Dish, and in Pacific Business News stating:

NonstopHonolulu.com will launch on Monday with photo galleries, restaurant reviews, party pictures, event listings and blogs. The website is patterned after Metromix Honolulu, which was owned by Advertiser parent company Gannett Co.
…“We want to be Honolulu’s main online source for eating, nightlife and events,” Diane Seo said.

Ed’s new blog on NonStopHonolulu will be Baker’s Hours, following in the footsteps of his popular food blog.

Congrats to Ed Morita for moving forward when so many would drop back. As usual, when Ed sets the bar for achievement, he sets it high, an example for all of us to follow. The Bitwire Media team is looking forward to having Ed on WordCast Conversations soon to share more of the excitement and story behind the new food and entertainment network.

John Hawkins Sports New WordPress Tattoo

John Hawkins is the second person to get a real WordPress tattoo. And before you start guessing where, he got it on his wrist, the back of the wrist, compared to the first WordPress tattoo recipient, Ed Morita, putting his on the inside of his wrist.

Hawkins was the original producer and organizer of the first WordCamp Las Vegas and continues to be a WordCamp party boy, traveling to WordCamps around the country, speaking or just hanging out sharing. So it’s appropriate that he used the WordCamp Las Vegas logo for his tattoo.

Matt Mullenweg was impressed and is debating creating a new category on Code Poet, the WordPress consultant and hiring list, for Hawkin’s company, 9seeds.

Many people may grimace, but both Ed Morita and John Hawkins are two of the best representatives of the WordPress Community. They go beyond the call of duty to help others and reach out to support the community of bloggers and WordPress fans. We’ve had both on WordCast and consider ourselves lucky to call them friends.
