On the WordCast Podcast, we discussed Gawker’s new design and interface and our opinions. So it was no surprise to us when we read on The NextWeb that Gawker’s new design is preventing Google from indexing it.
In regards to the redesign, many hate it, many love it, some couldn’t care less, we’re sure Denton couldn’t care. However, one thing that might concern its founder ever-so-slightly is the fact that not one piece of content published from any of his web properties in the last 24 hours has been crawled by Google News – in fact the last time anything from Lifehacker was indexed by Google News was two days ago.
Concern over the new design’s impact on Google’s ability to index the site was of immediate concern to Gawker, as well as to those often linked to from the publishing site, driving a “Gawker Effect” load of traffic in their direction.
In an update to the post, Scott Kidder, Director of Editorial Operations at Gawker Media explained that the design was indeed at fault and the issue was discovered after the launch of the new design. They are working on a fix.
