If I allow membership to anyone on my blog, does this mean that anyone can create a blog?

mod edit: moved to Beginner WordPress Help forum. Make sure you're posting in the appropriate forum

If you're using WordPress MU, that's an option. Any user can have the ability to create a blog, but you can turn that off. However, if you're using WordPress.org, the standalone system, only one blog exists and that's the one that you've installed WordPress for.

If by "create a blog" you mean create new posts, then, by default, no. There's an option in WordPress for "new user default role" which is set, at least initially, to "Subscriber". This can be changed if you choose to Author, Editor, etc. As subscribers, users can register and make their account but have no access to post editing of any kind.

Dave explains it all pretty good. You'll get this option with a regular WP install as soon as version 3.0 gets released. We'll see the merge of WP and WPmu.

I'm guessing then, that the short answer is NO. By default, user registration with WordPress is only "subscriber" access. You can change that to be other types of access and essentially allow anyone to post, but I'm not sure why you'd want to do that. If you went and installed a "Network Site"- what the WordPress MU features are being called in 3.0, you could allow users to create their own blogs within your network with registration, if you wished.
