Matt Thomas and Noel Jackson (update: Matt commented to let us know that, while he loves Duotone, it’s all Noel’s work) have taken the Monotone WordPress Theme, a dynamic Theme designed for photo bloggers, to the next level.
Duotone analyzes the colors and tones in a JPG photograph and styles the single post pageview to “complement” the photograph, making each page unique in color and styling, to the next level with the new Duotone WordPress Theme for WordPress.com blogs. The WordPress theme “paints” your blog as the visitor moves through it.
Announced in December, Jackson from Automattic created the Theme to use the first image in a post to sample the colors from the image to use in the page layout and color scheme. Images are framed within each page according to the image size, so the page views shrink and expand accordingly as you move from page to page with large arrows. The image is the focal point, so added graphics and sidebar clutter is not needed as you move easily through the site. It’s minimialism that puts the focus on the visual content.
The Duotone Theme feels more like a photo gallery, and text and other content can be added to give it a more bloggy feel. The ease of adding the story behind the photograph while having the photograph remain the center of attention would make this very popular for photo bloggers.
