Just out in time for the Bitwire Media Holiday Marathon, and a gift to bloggers around the world, WordPress 2.9 has been released. There is a lot to be excited about. Some highlights include the new post thumbnail, trash can, the long awaited image editing, oEmbed, custom post types, improvements to comment meta Plugin integration and a metadata API for Plugin authors. Exciting for those of us who’ve been around WordPress for a long time, and have abused our databases, is the new Database Repair Script to help clean up your database.
The full list of goodies and improvements for the WordPress version named for jazz legend, Carmen McRae, is in the WordPress Codex for WordPress 2.9.

So many of the developers who contribute to making WordPress better for all of us are usually invisible. In the WordPress 2.9 announcement, Matt honors the 140 contributors.
